To whomever it may concern,
David Stevenson worked as an actor, stuntman and stunt coordinator
on a York University Student film I both produced and directed.
A written contract between the school and ACTRA made it possible
for him to participate in this production.
Mr. Stevenson coordinated all
of the complex martial arts and stunts sequences for the film.
The most impressive of these, both technically and artistically
was a traditional high-speed Chinese sword duel between himself
and another skilled martial artist. This very authentic-looking
duel makes most other North American martial arts sequences
look pale by comparison. He spent weeks with the other actor
perfecting every detail of the fight to ensure total safety.
Before filming any stunt, Mr. Stevenson would run through the
routine with the other actor at quarter and half speeds repeatedly
until they had perfected the movements and he was sure there
would be no flaws when it came time for the cameras to roll.
Many of the actors often commented on how much they trusted
Mr. Stevenson’s guidance. This confidence stemmed largely from
the very professional attitude he brought with him to work each
day. He enjoys his craft, takes direction well and listens to
the comments of all members of the cast and crew. He brings
a unique creativity to the fight coordination. Some of the most
impressive fight scenes were entirely designed by him on set.
It was a joy and a privilege to have Mr. Stevenson aboard our
production. Even though he was not paid and was working with
students, he treated us with the respect he would any industry
professional. This is a true test of one’s level of professionalism
and overall attitude. I would not hesitate for a moment to work
with him again.
Sincerely,
Scott Clements
